Within the visit of Daimler-CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche at DLR’s site in Stuttgart were presented  the joint development efforts of DLR and UMC in the field of FPLG.

Prof. Wörner (CEO of DLR),  Prof. Friedrich (Head of Institut für Fahrzeugkonzepte) and Dr. Gräf  (CTO Universal Motor Corporation GmbH) introduced Dr. Zetsche into the technology and the development progress of the FPLG.

To cope with the challenges of electromobility, powergenerating units for range extension play an increasingly important role in the strategic planning of automotive manufacturers. The FPLG's unrivaled height of less than 6 inches can be placed comfortably in a car's underbody   close to the battery case. The driving range of a range-extended vehicle equals that of  convential vehicles while having the capability of a electric-driven emmission-free and economic ride in the city, covering ranges of 30 to 90 miles. For longer rides, the supply of the traction drive is switched to the powergenerator which also charges the battery.
